Differences between DAC&AOC

DAC (Direct Attach Cable)it use silver plated conductor and foamed insulation core wire as the material, using wire-pair shielding and total shielding, thus forming a high-speed cable.

Here introduce two types Direct Attach Cable:

1.     100G QSFP28 DAC

• 100GE QSFP28 Passive Copper provides customers with 100Gb/high-bandwidth data connectivity, 4-way duplex channels, 25Gb/s per channel working rate, and 100Gb/s aggregation bandwidth

• Complies with SFF-8665/SFF-8679 and IEEE 802.3bj and Infiniband EDR

• Provides support for distances ranging from 1m to 3m. This product is widely used in data center or supercomputer system scenarios

2.     100GE QSFP28 to 25G SFP28 DAC

• 100GE QSFP28 to 4x 25GE SFP28 parallel fan-out passive copper cables provide customers with 100Gb/high-bandwidth data connectivity, including 100GE QSFP28 on one end and 4X 25GE SFP28 on the other end

• Complies with SFF-8665/SFF-8679 and IEEE 802.3bj and Infiniband EDR

• Provides support for distances ranging from 1m to 3m. This product is widely used in data center or supercomputer system scenarios.

DAC application:

DAC are generally used on Ethernet switches, such as LY2 switches.

What is AOC

AOC :Active Optical Cable, the main components of the active optical cable are divided into two parts: the optical path and the circuit. The optical path part includes the lens and FA for converting the optical path angle; the circuit part includes the PCB board, the substrate, the VCSEL chip, the VCSEL driver chip, the PD chip and the TIA chip. As a main transmission medium for high-performance computers and data centers, active optical cables ensure the stability of transportation and application flexibility, and are common in high-density applications.

Here introduce two types Active Optical Cable:

1.     40G QSFP+to 4X10G SFP+AOC

2.     40G QSFP+ AOC

Product features:

Electrical Interface Compatible with QSFP+ Connectors (Set Trigger - 8436) and SFP+ Connectors (Set Trigger - 8431)

. Hot-swappable

.850nm VCSEL Transmitter, PIN Laser Detector

.OM3 MMF up to 100m

Working temperature: 0 - 70°C

. Full metal housing with superior EMI performance

. Meet RoHS6 (lead-free)

Active Optical Cable  advantages:

1: Greater bandwidth: don’t need device to update, throughput up to 40Gbps.

2: Weight is light, easy to delivery

3: Low electromagnetic interference: Since the optical fiber is a dielectric, it is not susceptible to electromagnetic interference.

Disadvantages of Direct Attach Cable:

1: The transmission distance is short, heavy, bulky and difficult to manage.

2: susceptible to electromagnetic interference, for example, It may cause problems such as poor response and degradation.
